Excellent beet campaign in Finland 2014/15

Sugar yields at record levels and a very stable production at the sugar factory in Säkylä gave a sugar output in Finland way over last year’s sugar production.

The 2014/15 sugar production campaign has just ended at the sugar factory in Säkylä, Finland. The sugar output amounts to approx. 92,000 tonnes which is a considerable increase compared to last year’s result.

The beet growing season in Finland has been characterized by very favorable weather conditions which, in combination with sowing almost two weeks earlier than the 5-year average, have resulted in a record high sugar yield of 7,6 tonnes/ha.

Sune Berghäll, Factory Director in Säkylä:

- We are naturally very satisfied with this year’s campaign. Prior to the campaign, we had a very positive recruitment of more growers and new fields in Finland. Added to that, an early sowing - which is a key parameter for achieving a high yield – followed by a very stable and smooth production campaign where the investments we had done prior to the campaign, e.g. in the evaporation station, filled all expectations meant that we can conclude that we have had one of the best campaigns ever in Säkylä.

The Säkylä factory is the first of Nordzucker’s factories to end the 2014/15 production season.
