Sweetness of beverages

The most important function of sugar in beverages is to give a pure, sweet taste with no tang.

In soft drinks and other drinks the sour taste of the fruit acids can be balanced by the sweet taste of sugar so that the taste becomes softer.

Usually the sugar content of sweet beverages is around 10%, but it may vary, down to 6-7% or up to 12-14% in extreme cases
