Nordic Sugar in Nakskov
The sugar factory based in Nakskov is Nordic Sugar’s largest white sugar facility.
During the production season, called the campaign, and running from mid-September to early January the facility operates around the clock, seven days a week. In this period Nordic Sugar Nakskov receives and processes around 1.4 million tones of sugar beet turning this volume into high-quality sugar and feed products. Around 600 truckloads of beet are delivered to Nakskov 6 days a week during the campaign. The sugar beets are supplied by approx. 500 growers. The facility has a daily processing capacity of 12,500 tonnes of beet.
Annual production in Denmark (2011/12):
- 464,000 tonnes of sugar
Beet-based feed products:
- 128,000 tonnes of unmolassed sugar beet pellets
- 81,000 tonnes of molasses
- 31,000 tonnes of HP-Pulp
The sugar is sold and supplied to the food industry.
The site employs around 160 people. During the campaign around 15 seasonal workers also join us. The majority of our employees are engaged in the production e.g. as process operators and in the dispatch to customers.
Staying in top shape
In order to sustain our high level of efficiency at all times, our key activities during the off-season are focused on overhauling and maintaining the production equipment, installing any new facilities as well as on other improvement projects. This is also the time of year when we run further training programmes for our team.

Location
At an about 30 minute drive from Nakskov at Rødby there are ferry connections to e.g. Germany as well as taxi flights from the local Lolland-Falster Airport. There are also ferry connections to Langeland via Tårs-Spodsbjerg.
