Sweetening with less calories

Used alone or in combination with sugar, stevia provides an excellent solution for reduced-calorie sweetening. The European Commission has approved for using stevia (steviol glycosides) in food and beverages in the EU as from 2 December 2011.

Stevia is a natural sweetener which is up to 300 times sweeter than sugar and has no calories.

Cooperating with NP Sweet, a joint venture between Nordzucker and PureCircle, which is the global leader in the production of stevia products, Nordic Sugar can now offer products which combines the natural benefits of both sugar and stevia.

NP Sweet develops and markets stevia and stevia-sucrose products to food and beverage producers across Northern and Eastern Europe, Germany and Holland who wish to offer naturally sweet food and beverage products with reduced calories.

About stevia

Stevia is a plant from the asteriaceae (sunflower) family that has been used as a natural sweetener and flavour enhancer for centuries. In 2008 high purity (over 96 per cent) Rebaudioside A, a single molecule from the stevia plant, was granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status for use as a sweetener ingredient in beverage and food products.
